Youth Central Connections 2010, 8th Annual “What’s My Anti-drug? Youth Summit” was a success & lots of fun for all. The event brought the community together, while teaching kids the importance of having an anti-drug. This year’s proceeds went to Restore Hope Orlando, an organization that works mainly with youth in the Holden Heights area of Orlando (one of the highest crime rate areas in the US). Workshops were held for boys, girls & parents on the daily challenges that our youth face and we will brought experts in to speak on each topic. The workshop topics were as follows:
- Young Men: Defining & identifying conflict, how
it relates to their lives & and how to deal with it. - Ladies 1st, If You Raise the Bar, They'll Raise
Their Pants: Behavior modification and raising
self esteem in young women - Parents: When to be player, coach or fan;
takes parents through stages with kids - Panel Discussion: Living and defining the
American Dream. Help kids define “THEIR”
dream & how not to create anchors that slow
down “The Dream" (tattoos, mouth grills,
sagging pants, improper speech)

Following the workshops was the 8th Annual “What’s My Anti-Drug?” Karate Tournament at which the featured guest speaker, Vince Carter Sr. spoke to the kids and parents about drugs, the importance of an education, and obedience towards teachers and parents.
Capping off the night was a Gospel Concert & the “Youth Central Connection Star Search Competition (an American Idol type star search). Dr Bias is an advocate of change for the community and believes our communities are reachable, teachable, lovable, and savable. She believes that building and preserving strong support systems to meet the needs of the community through practical grass-roots methods will begin the process of prevention and intervention movements against of the social ills destroying our communities.
